Art Chicas Unidas Recap

Well the reception for Art Chicas Unidas was last Saturday. What a great program. I get very excited whenever I get the chance to share what I do with others. I also am a huge fan of collaboration. All in all two massive thumbs up to La Reunion! I posted an additional blog about the project from start to finish here. There is also a short video that the amazing Cindy Chaffin did for Art+Seek here.

This was taken on a trip to New York a couple of years ago. I could not believe how many buildings will being torn down and how many new ones were being built. It was like a maze of scaffolding.

This was my first journey out to Plano for the Balloon festival. Getting close to these balloons is an adventure indeed. The sound and the movement of the people working below. Maybe one day I will shoot from a basket in the air

I finally walked out to the lawn of the grassy knoll a couple of years ago and had a chat with this man. There is a noticeable inner silence on this sidewalk. This image was shot on a Diana +.

This picture was taken about one hour south of Marfa, Texas at the Sutton Ranch. I remember jumping out of bed this morning, throwing on boots (because that is what you wear in the west Texas desert), grabbing my cameras and heading outside to catch the morning light. I was not the only camera creeping around in the tall grass that morning. We moved around each other in silence and awe. The beauty of this sunrise was one for my memory banks.

This is another capture snapped from my old Continental Gin Building studio. My studio mate at that time was the wonderfully talented Cathey Miller. This picture was taken on the eve of a small soiree we had in the studio. I set up a small backdrop and captured our visitors. Thanks Jennie!

This photograph was before my digital days. I took this shot in 2001 on a trip to Cape Cod with my mother and father. What I remember about this shot is that I wanted to make the road leading up to it important. This is because right behind where I was standing was a Suburban with Texas plates that I had sunk down to the ground. Needless to say we were there for a while.

Well I have been working on this project for a full week now. There are many more shots to come. My work room is a wreck, there are negative pages laying around, contact sheets, loupes and Polaroids. I forgot how much I enjoy sitting at the light box with a loupe in my hand filled with anticipation for what gem I might find. All in all this project in injecting me with energy to dust off some old ideas and bring them forward.

It is a rare occasion to see things so majestic. I am a huge fan of nature and the mountains. Having spent most of my childhood in New England, the green mountains were my playground. This picture was taken in the Big Horn mountains in Wyoming. They are truly a sight. This day the sun was warm and the sky was one of the bluest I had ever seen.

This is an image from a large project I did several years ago. In this picture is Ruth Burandt, one amazing woman. Wells and I spent the day with her, her animals, a nice chilly walk through the snow and homemade venison stew. I hope to finish the self published book of this project soon so I can mail them to all of the amazing people I met in Minnesota. The kindness of strangers is a wonderful thing.

Another great day spent with a camera. I was out for a walk in Seattle with my camera and my best pal Amy. We walked in the breezy weather and looked through windows. When we got down to the water's edge I came upon this gentleman. I can not remember his name but I remember the conversation. He was delightful and made me giggle.

I remember this day as if it was yesterday. I had at this time a studio in the amazing Continental Gin Building. If you have not been to an open studio there, I highly recommend it. I had the pleasure to work with two outstanding gals this day. I would have to say all in all one of the best days I have had with a camera hands down.

Today I begin a small project. I am excited about digging through stacks of images and bringing a select few to the front. Since this is a completely random selection process I decided to pick a Happy Accident as the first pick. When I travel or take walks with my camera I am always shooting possible background plates I could use at a later date. This capture was the middle of a bracket, I was simply shooting away and never saw the man approaching. I was completely pleased that he ended front and center in the frame. Life gives you little gifts sometimes.

Why is it I always seem to be apologizing to a neglected blog.... Well here we go again. I have been a busy gal since my last post in August. There has been new work made, future work captured, trips taken and dreams building. September was a month to fill my head with the next projects and clear out the old ones. Although I never quite finish this process I am ready to proceed just the same. Did I also mention one of my all time favorite activities has come to town. Howdy Folks! I love the Fair time of year. Looking forward in October!

There are many new developments for the Month of October. I am really looking forward to shaking my tail feathers! First up are the new Ads I have been working on for promotion.

Next up is the "A picture a day series for October"
I have given myself a new self assignment, so that I can get more work out there in the world. This starts tomorrow and I am excited to get going. Then rules are to post one new picture a day from past shooting or brand new. I will be digging through my negatives (that's right negatives), digital archives and snapping some new ones for this.

Also coming in October New Commission packages for the fall and new year. Have you ever wanted to be someone else, confront yourself face to face or still want the chance to be what you wanted "when you grow up". Then look no further, I am here to help so stay tuned.....and by golly enjoy the weather!!

Art Conspiracy's SEED is Tomorrow.

Art Conspiracy is up to it again. Come on out tomorrow night to help Art Conspiracy raise funds to put on it's number 5! The artists have gathered once again this time with coffee cans. The task was to turn them into any kind of lamp you could dream of, the results are awesome. I ofcourse forgot to take pictures of mine for some reason. My brain is checked out from time to time. Haha. I went after my can with liquid rubber a medium I have never used. All I can say is a respirator is a good thing and I think this stuff may occur again in my work. Let the bidding begin!

A recent chat with R.J. Jackson for the Rick and RJ Collaborative

R.J. Jackson recently came by my house to have a chat, the thing about R.J.is he shows up with microphones and a digital recorder. He is working on a new adventure with Rick Vanderslice called the Rick and RJ Collaborative. I have had the pleasure of being on the Vanderslice Salon in the past with Carissa Byers. Reality Check Part Two...

Well I almost forgot to finish the second half of this blog entry due to the ever changing absent minded busy. So where was I, ah yes in line awaiting the review from the few under the tent, that at this point was so very far away from where I was standing. We all began chatting and seeing where everyone was from and this is when I noticed the woman wearing the yellow shirt standing two people in front of me. Her shirt had "Texas" across it and I had to ask. "Are you from Texas,and if so where do you live?" She said yes Dallas and I laughed at the small nature of the world we all whirl around in. Not only was Tamara White from Dallas but we happen to live in the small little side of town known as Oak Cliff. It is moments like that that make me smile! We had all become acquainted with each other as we slowly did our hopeful trudging to the front of the line. Let me tell you if you have to spend an entire day wrapping around a city block, Do it in Manhattan! There was always something to look at and hear as the residents of the West Village milled about there day. We heard a cyclist yell at a cabbie, a cabbie honk at a driver and the line of us cheered on like spectators to a new sport. There was some press out there and several people with video and still cameras documenting the impromptu street side art fair. I had the pleasure to have a small chat with the folks from Art Forum thanks to Tamara's yellow shirt of Texas. She pointed out we were both from the Lone Star State. They moved through the line asking questions about the whole experience and why we were there. After hours and hours of eating while standing for some, running down the street to a cafe for quick breaks and stretching the waiting was coming to an end for my small section of the line. I, of course was too afraid something would happen if I stepped out of line so no liquid, food, or breaks for me. I have no idea why this seemed like a good idea since the line moved slower than any turtle I have ever seen. But alas we arrived at the tent and the anticipation was building. Off my group went one at a time to sit in front of a stranger under tents on the sidewalk. I was called over took a deep breath said hello and handed the man my portfolio. He said very little and flipped through the shiny pages. From this point I shall tell all it was an experience I was very proud to have been a part of.... but the blog ends here. I did very well the rest of the day but I will be sticking to actual reality for the time being. I truly love being a part of a community that is everywhere. Many thanks to the Artists I had the pleasure to spend a day on a street corner with. I posted a few pictures from the day on my flickr.

Reality Check, what an adventure! Part one

Well I landed in Philadelphia last Friday night (Actually it was Saturday morning) after 1am. I grabbed my bags from the overhead compartment and departed on my east coast adventure. I have many thanks to a wonderful friend who picked me up so late and let me crash on her couch. After a couple hours of sleep it was scarf selection time, then to boot or chuck? I went with the chucks do to the nature of walking so much in Manhattan. Off we went at 6:30am for the Big Apple. It was a quick drive minus missing one turn due to sleep deprivation. We zipped along the Jersey turnpike right past the hospital of my birth. Then through Jersey City into the Holland Tunnel, which by the way is $8 just to drive through, Geesh. Just a couple more blocks and we would be there. Circling around the West Village we pass a line of people all holding portfolios looking sleeping and full of anticipation. We were trying to find a place to make a photocopy real quick because of course I missed something in the application. After no luck because it was too early I decided to queue up with the rest. Jen dropped me on the corner and me, my dreams and aspirations trucked along the Manhattan pavement to line up with my piers. The sun was beaming upon us with little to know breeze and several artists around me were frantically finishing the application. I was quiet for about 5 minutes then started chatting with the folks around me. Behind me was Lindsay and in front was Jeremy, Molly, Sebastian and Tamara. Little did we know but we were about to stand on a Manhattan city block for an entire day together. to be continued....

"Untitled Art Project" New Reality Show for Bravo

I was just sitting around minding my own business last week then in came the open call for this new reality show. I always said if there ever was a reality show like Project Runway for artists I would give it a go. Haha be careful what you ask for because here it is. After fumbling around with the idea I figured why not. I have been preparing a new portfolio, updating the ever changing CV, picking out scarves (because it is only 85 in New York!!!) and hats. Me and my aspirations are hoping on a plane to the east coast on Friday. I am always one for an experience so New York here I come to gallivant on your sidewalks and expose my work to a table of strangers! I hope that there are many artists from Dallas heading to one of these castings. It is time the rest of the country sees how amazing our community is here in the "BIG D". You live once right? May all the dreamers of the world unite and make some art!

Well Dallas just had a ton of water dumped on it from the sky and one of the most impressive light displays I think I have ever seen. It looked as though a fashion photo shoot was taking place in my backyard all night long. Once we all dry out a bit let's go out artiing shall we? Well things have been busy in the world of Dallas. My work went up to the Center for Fine-Art Photography in Colorado for "Human Canvas" and sold right away to a patron in Texas.

Then I had the pleasure to be invited to participate in a wonderful show for a wonderful cause! Mental Health America of Greater Dallas had "In The Know" at the Dallas Center for Contemporary Art. Always fun to attend a silent auction, my pals take this sort of thing very seriously. Below is one of the pieces I donated.

After "In The Know" I put my curator hat back on and held a few more events at Deep Ellum's little gallery that could, Kettle Art for Decadence + Perception. Something about having music played in a room with art just feels right. Kettle pulled out its chairs for people to listen to the sounds of Luna Matto and Suzanne Kimbrell.
Then there was "I Am Here" at South Side on Lamar with the DIAC. I jumped on board with this show late but got as dirty as I could. I hauled my extra lights, extension cords, fans and art down to the underground of this massive building. What a fun and great group of folks. I look forward to knowing them all better and seeing what kind of trouble we can get into in our grand city!! Well all in all my crazy blog, I have been a busy busy bee and there is more to come... stay tuned.

The First Annual Oak Cliff Art Crawl 4pm - 9pm

On April 25, 2009, Several Art Galleries and Artist studios will open their doors for receptions and festivities in Oak Cliff. You are invited to visit each destination at your own pace between the hours of 4pm – 9pm. Artworks of all mediums will be on display.
The event is free and a map of destinations will be provided at each venue. I donated work to "Toast to Life" this year here in Dallas. What a night, believe it or not I went out without a hat, no scarf and heels. Let's say I felt like I was in a costume so I went with it. The event is in it's 11th year and going strong. It benefits the Resource Center of Dallas. It was great to see all of the Art of the walls, the patrons walking around eager to bid and the DJ spinning in the corner.

'Through the Eyes of the New Photographer' debuts next weekend at Bridge Art Fair. If you or anyone you know is in New York City go have a peak. Here is what Art Now had to say:

"For the Love of Kettle Art" a benefit show for the gallery is tomorrow

Kettle Art is a place that is near and dear to me and many other Dallas artists. a group of us asked a bunch of artists to participate in the benefit. All of the work I saw come in at drop off looked amazing. If you are needing some new art and want to attend an event for a great cause this is it folks. I gave two photographs that were taken in New York City when a bunch of us crazy Kettle folk went up there to participate in an Art Fair.

Art Con , Trees and More

What a couple of weeks in Dallas. Art Conspiracy held it's thank you party for the volunteers and artists. We also gave a $20,000 check to preservation link. What a great night to be a part of an organization that feeds right back into it's own local arts economy.

The trees were recently debuted out on the La Reunion land. Team Hackberry a.k.a myself, Erik Glissmann, Aaron Glissmann and Tanya Meurer worked many hour in the woods for a month to produce our piece. The experience was wonderful and the other artist's creations fantastic. I look forward to take on the next project!

Well we have been hard at work on the land and tomorrow all can come out to see what we have been up to. I have kept all pictures back on this project to leave the element of surprise. I always seem to be apologizing to my poor little blog. It has yet again been collecting dust while I have been running around my world, working away. So here we go again my sweet blog, let me tell you why I have been away. First of all I have been up to many projects as of late. Take a look:

'Through the Eyes of the New Photographer' a new book by Art Now
I entered some images for review at the 11th hour and was selected to be one of the photographers in this new book that will be released at AIPAD in March, what fun. The book will be 220pgs and will highlight photographers from around the world. Here is a sneek peak at what my two pages will look like.

Art Conspiracy 4 - Oh What a Night!!!

I have been groggy the last couple of days trying to decide what to say about Art Con 4 and then it donned on me. The show of kindness and generosity has rendered me completely speechless. I feel honored to be the Art Coordinator of such an inspiring adventure. The amount of people that came together to pull this one off was beautiful to see. I personally could never thank everyone enough for being so awesome. Regardless of what anyone ever says about Dallas, you will never convince this gal that it is anything but magical and amazing! I would like to give an extra shout out to: Cari Weinberg, Andrea Roberts, Ange Fitzgerald, Courtney Miles, The Art Con Board(Sarah Jane Semrad, Bill Holston, Jeff Allsup, Serena Wills, Mike Arreaga, Jason Roberts) Stephen Hartzler, Erik and Aaron Glissman, Edward Ruiz + Robert the 16mm kid, Jill Broussard + Fred Holston, the amazing bullhorn barkers (Rob, Rob, Mike, Suzanne, Paul and Jason), Karla Garcia and all the art handlers, Angela Faz, Robbie Michael, Paul Slavens, The Chameleon Chamber Group, Aton, Mount Righteous, every volunteer and so many more.... Bring on the Artists! Art Conspiracy 4 is Ready

Well after months and months of meetings we arrived at "Hell Week" last Saturday. The only thing is there has been nothing hellish about it. I truly love watching a great community rise to the occasion. This week has been tiring, cold and constant but wonderful. We started with a warehouse that was dark and dusty. After loads of lumber, screws, brooms, electrical work and dust pans there is this space that is ready to have art created in it. Starting in about 8 hours the first shift of artists will carry in there supplies. In about 48 hours it will all be over. I hope that everyone is ready to Deconstruct and take a journey for a great cause! I know that I am. I truly love my city and all that we are capable of!

The ball was pushed and began to roll officially today. Art Con 4 is underway. We have taken it upon ourselves to tackle a monster for the sake of giving back this year. Our venue is beautiful and raw but she needs many repairs and construction prior to the grand event Saturday December 6th. We will be burning the midnight oil all week to get it done. I hope that we blow the lid on the jar of possibilities right off. I already have a large group of people to thank for their kindness and generosity and we just began. Bring on the Art Con Army we are ready to fulfill your aesthetic stockings!

Art Chicas 2008

I spent the day teaching a group of 10 amazing young women. Please go here to see the end results and snaps I took of each of them.
The assignment was:
To shoot with DSLR cameras in fully manual modes, abstract or indirect portraits of a stranger. (The girls were paired with another girl in the class. It had to be someone they did not know.) Then they had to reflect and write about the image they chose. At the end of the day was a reception with there work and stories were on the wall. I was very proud of the gals for taking the assignment seriously and diving right in.

This was part of Art Chicas with La Reunion. There were 4 artists involved and forty young women this year. What a wonderful day.

I have been sitting in my office since early last night working on the finger puppet series for "Into the Wild" that opens this Saturday at Kettle Art. I can not wait to see what George Fowler and Tori Webb Pendegrass drop off at the gallery this evening. The show is bound to be a blast!

Also this morning I hit send to Art Conspiracy's 4th call for artists. In less than one hour we already had 1/3 of the slots filled. The event grows every year. I can not wait to see how this one plays out.

Art Conspiracy Celebrates its 4th Year by Getting Deconstructed
40,000 Square Foot Warehouse will host One-of-a-Kind Live Art Auction, Concert on
December 6th

October 8, 2008 - DALLAS, TX – Art Conspiracy is known for pulling together all types of artists and musicians for unique fundraisers in storied Dallas locations. This year, instead of setting up shop in a historical venue, Art Conspiracy is looking to put one on the map. Starting at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, Art Conspiracy will host its annual fundraiser in a 40,000 square foot warehouse at 3011 Gulden in West Dallas. This year, Art Conspiracy’s theme is “Deconstructed.”

The event will feature music from Mount Righteous, Chameleon Chamber, Aton and sets from DJ Sober and DJ Select as well as video installations from Edward Ruiz and works from 150 Dallas area artists.

“We’ve never had this kind of a blank slate to work with,” says Andrea Roberts, Site
Coordinator, Art Conspiracy. “There many creative people involved with Art Conspiracy and there’s so much space to work with, the possibilities are endless.”

Art Conspiracy differs from other arts fundraisers because the artists do their work
on-site the day before the event. The artists work in shifts to fill in as many wooden
canvases as possible in a 24-hour period. Starting bids for all pieces is $20 and Art
Conspiracy’s entertaining, rapid-fire live auctions have become an attraction in their own right.

“Art Conspiracy will turn the warehouse into a gigantic studio,” says Erica Felicella, Art Coordinator, Art Conspiracy. “This event is not only about making art and raising money for charity, but also about bringing creative people in North Texas closer together. Having all of these artists in one place at the same time, working for a good cause helps achieve a sense of community.”

This year’s Art Conspiracy event will benefit Preservation LINK, Inc., a nonprofit group
That teaches students in South Dallas and Fair Park media literacy and self-esteem
through photography and videography programs. The programs aim to encourage
exploration and empower students while they document their community.

'For Preservation LINK, Inc. to be recognized and supported by a group of local artists is a huge honor,” said Dave Herman, Jr., President and CEO, Preservation Link. “We have been diligent in creating avenues for South Dallas youth to explore themselves and the issues that concern them and their communities. The support that Art Conspiracy is providing will assist us in cultivating our 'family' of youth media programs that serve South Dallas students during school and after school.”

Since 2005, Art Conspiracy has raised $35,000 through grassroots, guerilla-style
fundraisers to reinvest in the local arts economy. In May of 2008, Art Conspiracy
received its official 501c3 status from the IRS. Past beneficiaries have included La
Reunion, an artist’s residency in Oak Cliff, and St. Anthony Community Center, a center that emphasizes art, music and dance in the programs they provide for 800+ children in South Dallas. More information is available at the Art Conspiracy web site.

I have been feverishly working away in my studio to get ready for an upcoming show at Kettle Art. While on my adventures this past summer I came across a bunch of finger puppets that I had to have. My only regret is that I did not buy more of these little gems. I have been photographing the puppet show to bring to everyone else. "Into the Wild" opens Saturday, October 18th at Kettle Art Gallery in Deep Ellum. I will be hanging on the walls with the wonderful Tori Webb Pendergrass and George Fowler. Diving With Sharks in Las Vegas

I woke up this morning extra early and took a nice calm shower before breakfast. By 9am we were heading to the tank that I was going to be submerging myself in. I met up with my dive buddy Jack and we had a quick dive orientation. Then for the first time ever I put on a chain mail suit that up until this point I had only seen on television. After all of the summers of watching "Shark Week", I was the one going under to face these beautiful creatures! We started out by swimming over to the top of the ship wreck after entry. Then one lap around the tank to get the sharks used to our presence and check buoyancy. Once acclimated and calm the camera was handed to me and off I went. All in all, a great experience that I will never forget. Plus it is getting this diver back in the water, I have missed it.

We arrived in Las Vegas this morning for a week long journey of surreal adventures. After dropping luggage off in the rooms we took a tour of the locations. Tomorrow morning I shall be donning scuba gear, a Mark III and jumping into a shark tank. After the seeing the beautiful creatures today I am ready to take the plunge. I will have the pleasure of making the acquaintance of tiger sharks, black tip reef sharks, barracuda and more. We shall see if this rusty diver still has what it takes.

My favorite time has arrived, well almost, happens a bit later in Texas. I love the onset of fall it breathes new life into everything I do and see. It also marks the beginning of a new great season of Fine-Art. There is so much to see this weekend that I am going to have to pack a cooler just so I don't slow down. Yeah! Me and my work are not participating in the fall walks this year as I am still producing new bodies of work. This means I get to simply go out and see all of the work created by a gang of Artists from all around. Both the DADA and DEEP artwalks are on saturday, click the links for more information. I helped install the "Cartoon Apocalypse" at Kettle Art and it looks fantastic. You will find several of your favorite characters and maybe discover some new ones. Also, I can not wait to see "Hall Pass" by Allison V. Smith at Barry Whistler. The amazing talented Guy Reynolds was there snapping away at the installation. So folks if you are in the Dallas area this Saturday get to Arting! You will not regret it.

Dallas continues to shine in my eyes. I had a hard time adjusting to the big D when I first arrived but once the dust settled it has been nothing but smiles ever since. Last night is no exception. I enjoyed dinner with great company at the new and wonderful Bolsa in Oak Cliff then on to Double Wide to hear the amazing ladies of Lovie.

The only hard part to the evening is that I have a twisted ankle and I really wanted to boogie down.

The Return from Concan - Labor Day 2008

I embarked on another Texas journey unsure of where we were headed other than a cabin in Concan. What a Labor day weekend. So much so it has taken me a week to write about it. I had the pleasure of being included a outdoor adventure with a group of thirty that have been camping together for about thirty years. Our destination was the fine cabins of the BENT River Retreat on the Frio river.

This group does a weekend up right, they have the gear for endless hours of river floating, quite the savy for a early evening game of volleyball, quick wits for the card table (which I willing gave my money away in) and a well oiled system for the dinner of thirty.

I can thank everyone on the trip enough for such a great adventure in such amazing country. If you have not been out to this part of Texas before then hop in your cars. I have now spent two weekends out there, one on the Nueces River and one on the Frio. They are thirty minutes away from eachother and offer completely different scenery. Also while you are there check out the Bats, Hill Country Adventures has quite the cave of bats they say it is the second largest colony of bats around. It was stunning.

Packing up to hit the road one more time for Labor Day Weekend

I am grabbing my cameras, and maybe even some lighting for this trip. I am heading south again, this time to the Frio River in Concan, Texas. I would tell you where that is but I do not even really know myself. I hope for a great photo hunt adventure. Meanwhile, back in the big "D" I have been working away. Trying to keep up with myself. Haha, if it was not attached I just my loose it somedays. Amen for key hooks. I am in the process of cataloging and preparing to produce a couple more bodies of work, self publish a couple more books, and more I am sure I am forgetting. Below is "The Happy Bullets" in print. Texas Adventures!

I have been one busy gal the last couple of weekends. I have celebrated birthday with two of my best pals, sans the cake. It seems that the older we get the more daring the adventures are becoming. The weekend of August 16th, I headed out east to New York, Texas for Frankie's birthday. The adventure was ziplining and this is some serious fun! I am hoping to go back soon and shoot a proper story on the family that runs this place.

This last weekend I headed southwest to the outskirts of Uvalde, Texas. The destination was Chalk Bluff Park on the Nueces River. The drive was long but worth it. This time the adventure would be rain soaked camping and kayaking. The first day of kayaking we hit the river excited. The storm clouds were building around us but we did not scare easy. The flow rate of the river was at 30 this day so I coined the phrase Kaywalking for this trip.

Well over the next 15 hours or so about 10+ inches of rain fell and the mighty Nueces rose up the banks. All the campers on the trip woke up drenched except us, we had an amazing tent from REI. I felt lucky to still have some dry under garments. We had some breakfast and coffee huddled under shelter and watched the rain. The locals at the park told us we should wait out a storm cell heading toward us before leaving, boy am I glad we did. The wind picked up and the rain came fast, we all heading for our tents. While inside the trusty dome the rain came down in buckets and started to stream around us. We even had a stream running right under the tent. Crazy! After all of this craziness we headed for the river with our boats. The flow was 30 the day before and was now 160.

Let's just say day two had no walking needed, all paddle. Happy birthday to my good buddies!

A day in the Life of... Part 2

After writing the last post I got to thinking about all of the strange and interesting encounters I have had in photo world. So I decided I would start writing some tidbits about jobs past and current. The adventures from behind the lens. I guess we should start from the beginning. One of my first paying jobs ever, I was still a teenager and the job was headshots for a small company. I was really nervous but held my composure and set up my backdrop and lighting. Feeling a bit more confident I lifted the camera to start shooting and the back door to my trusty 35mm just fell off. My face flushed with red and I apologized and stated that I will have to return another day. I have since had many bad, good, great, amazing, embarassing, ripley's believe it or not like and down right sad days while on set either on my own jobs or while assisting another shooter.

Today my phone rang around 2:15pm and I answered. It was someone I have worked with on and off for years. He has been known to be a practical jokester so I did not believe the conversation right away. Here is how it went approx.
"Hey Erica, are you still a certified diver?"
"I am, I believe but I have not dove in years, what's up?"
"Would you get in a shark tank?" (at this point I know this must be a joke.)
"As long as I have a good chainmail suit, I don't see why not."
"Oh ofcourse it will be very safe." (This is when I realize it is real and I become a bit stunned.)
"I will check on my certification and get right back to you."

So I may be in for the adventure of the year. We shall wait and see. Like I said I never know where a day may take me. Stay tuned to see if I make it throught this one!

A day in the life of...

My life has always been full of going different places and seeing different things. I feel very lucky to be a photographer. In the last couple of weeks I have stood on the side of a mountain, drove a smart car and just this morning stood in Texas Stadium with no one around. I have never been a football fan but, standing in a building that is normally filled with the roar of fans when it is silent has always moved me. I took in the environment while snapping a few shots here and there on film. All in all whether a fan or not what a way to spend a morning!

Return to the Big "D"

Well after a intense 14 hours drive with minimal stopping, we are home. It was great to see the wagging tails of two joyful goldens upon arrival. The trip overall was amazing. The beauty of the land around us never ceases to amaze me. I have been working on journaling about the trip. There were so many characters from a little stuffed sheep named "Sheepy" we picked up in Chimayo as our mascot to the straight out of Saturday Night Live shooting glass wearing Park Ranger. It is always wonderful to be home and sad to leave.

Hello from the Road

I have been away from the Big "D" since the evening of July 31st. My journies have taken me through a round about tour of New Mexico and we have been staying in Hermosa right outside of Durango, Colorado. There have been many adventures and many characters met on this trip. There will be an in depth recap upon my return. But below is a picture from one of the Jeep Trails outside of Silverton, Colorado. What a beautiful piece of country, and yes that is snow in the picture left over from an avalanche last winter.

Upstate New York Recap. Cooler weather and Family galore!

I woke at 5:15am which was really 4:15am for me. I grabbed my camera and walked out to the deck at my Aunt's house. The fog was slowly sifting across the water and the air was still and damp. All was still sleeping except for a few early risers. My aunt and soon-to-be uncle are early risers. Sitting on the front porch sipping on coffee and enjoying some conversation. It was a wonderful way to start the day. Sitting on the edge of water has always centered me, which is funny because I choose to live in the completely land locked city of Dallas. Well what can I say I love it.

I spent the day helping with a few final wedding day details then headed to have lunch with my parents. I loved being able to hang out with them while out of town.

The wedding and reception was fantastic. It was so great to see my Aunt's eyes well up with tears and see a big 'ol smile across her face. The last time I was surrounded by that many family members was six years ago. It was truly wonderful to see everyone. I can not wait to go back.

I guess that once a yankee always a yankee.

I have escaped the heat of a Texas july for a couple of days by traveling to upstate New York in honor of my aunt's wedding. Some things I love about New England. Almost every town has an ice cream parlor, Dunkin Donuts is readily available and there are trees and water everywhere. It was so chilly last night that I could no longer feel my toes. The quote of the day was said in reference to a model plane "That engine is bigger than a snow blower!" To a yankee that comment may sound normal but to a transplant like me who has not seen snow in ages, I found myself in a good chuckle. I love it!!! This part of the country is near and dear to my heart, such beauty everywhere. Let's not forget about the history either. Last night there was a gathering of family at the groom's parents. The house was originally built in 1761. Amazing. Family dynamics are something I am fascinated with and this weekend will be full. The picture below is two sets of sisters from my side of the family. The foreground is my mother and her Sister Colleen and in the background is Colleen daughters Liz and Ally.

I was sitting here if front of my computer staring at the white text box of my blog. What to write, what to write? I thought to myself, I could write about Art Conspiracy, The need for another Shutterbabes Outing, Happenings at Kettle Art, My latest published work, New photographic interests, recent encounters or just link everything and let you all take a look.

All in all life is a beautiful mixture and my community never ceases to amaze me. I can not thank the Artists, musicians, volunteers, Art Con Gang and everyone in attendance for coming out last Saturday. SEED was a wonderful success and a rockin' good time. We have raised a nice chunk of change to move toward Art Con IV. Let's shake things up shall we! Check out the video by the Amazing Cindy of Fine Line Live!

On the photography front, things have been busy and I am getting to work on many interesting projects. I have yet to have the same day twice. I can not imagine ever growing bored with the medium. I still learn more almost everyday and still get giddy like school child when a camera is in my hands! I have been working toward a bunch of new goals for '08 and some are getting close to completion. I can not wait! Exciting times!

Well I have missed you terribly. It has been well over a month since I posted an entry. I had to dust off the page just to view it. All I can say is that life has been very busy and full these days. I have seen several great friends get married, ran off to an all gals getaway in the west texas desert, got pulled over in boston with someone else driving my rental car, created the belt buckle cam for a party, witnessed many good friends birthdays and even managed to take a few pictures along the way. I will be recapping some of these events and more in the next couple of days. But for now please check my flickr for a visual reference.

Well my good gal pal Sarah Jane asked me about a month ago if I would like to co-curate an art show with her, I accepted. We were given a dusty, dirty and vacant old bar in Deep Ellum as a venue. The moment I saw the space I got excited. I have no idea why but, I love transforming a space for the sake of Art. There is nothing quite like it or quite as exhausting. A Tough Girl's Art Show in Deep Ellum

Nancy, George and Bess is an exhibit that features local women artists working in all media and in all stages of their career. Named after the three lead female figures in Carolyn Keene's Nancy Drew series, Nancy, George and Bess encapsulates Dallas' own female talent in a cool Deep Ellum property, located at 2824 Main in Deep Ellum as a part of the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. From artists to have never had a show to artists who are collected widely, Nancy, George and Bess allows all stages and ages to emerge and share the same gallery space. Confirmed artists: Zanne Hochberg, Angela Faz, Erica Felicella, Andrea Roberts, Jayme Nourallah, Ryann Rathbone, Kate Nelson, Kim Cadmus Owens, Alison Welsh and Cathey Miller.

Nancy, George and Bess is curated and produced by Sarah Jane Semrad and Erica Felicella. The event is presented by Deep Ellum Foundation and Deep Ellum Association. A free artists reception will be held on Thursday, April 3 from 7PM-9PM and will feature the sounds of Orbital Beebop. The exhibit will also be open during Deep Ellum Arts Festival hours which are Friday, April 4 from 5PM-10PM; Saturday, April 5 from 11AM-10PM; and Sunday, April 6 from 11AM - 5PM. A special BYOB party will be held on Saturday, April 5 from 10PM-1:30AM and feature all girl band Lovie and local girl rocker Heather Knox. Cover for the party is $5.

Back in the Big D

I have been back in Dallas for a little over 24hrs and I am glad to be home. All journeys are full of adventures and mystery but there is nothing like your own bed at the finish line. Ahhhh. I awoke bright and early this fine Easter Morning. I enjoyed coffee with my dogs and the brisk breeze. Then off to Lee Park to witness my first ever Easter in the Park. Why have I not attended this event in the past? Well I will never miss it again if I am in town. What a blast, I am a sucker for dogs and there were a ton. The Pooch Parade is a seriously good time! Happy Easter to all!

Last Day in Washington

We are heading home this evening. Yesterday we started our morning at the Holocaust Museum. I slowly walked through the museum, I still can not comprehend how people could do such horrendous acts. I do not believe I said anything the whole time I was there and tears rolled out of my eyes and down my cheeks. I am glad that we made it to this exhibit. From there I took in the Hirshhorn Museum, I am such a sucker for art!! They had an amazing exhibit called dreams. All video installation and all in the dark. You wandered through the exhibit most times not knowing where the walls were. Fantastic!!! We sauntered through the Sculpture gardens while my mother and sister gave me there interpretations of the work. I really liked my mom's take on Henry Moore, made me giggle. We headed to the National Gallery of Art, and all I have to say about that collection is wow! I walked through the rooms of Rodin, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cezanne and a large collection of Rauschenberg. A simply divine way to wind down a week long trip . We all have tired feet and my cheeks are a little flushed from the constant wind that has been blowing since we got here. I am hoping that we will catch a few more things this morning then back to Texas. If you have never been to DC I highly recommend it. Pierre L'Enfant designed an amazing city and it is full of wonderment and history. I posted more pictures on my flickr from this week.

Washington Update

Well I tried to write an entry everyday but I could hardly stand upright last night and went to bed instead. So here is a two day recap. Yesterday was one for the record books in my life. It started well before the sun came up. We hoped on a bus and headed out to Mount Vernon to see the home of our nation's first president, George Washington. Very impressive. The home had examples of the some of the oldest faux finishes I have ever seen. After that we were stuck on bus for a while because it would not start. No problem bus driver Willy to the rescue! Then we drove through Alexandria and took in the sights. My favorite was an old row home from the 1800's called the Spite House. It is still lived in today and is a total 150 Sq Ft of two story living space. From there back to DC. We milled around Union station a bit tried to get in the national archives but gave up due to rain.

I went out alone and armed with cameras later to catch some demonstrations. They were happening all day all through out the city due to the 5 year anniversary of the war in Iraq. I caught the end of one in Mcpherson Square and ran to catch the Metro to get to the Captiol Building. I just made it. People were gathered and ready to march up the hill. It was a silent procession, people were wearing black and had the names of soldiers hanging around there necks. They marched up the hill and stopped in the middle of an intersection. I believe 52 people were arrested yesterday during the demonstrations.

Today we started bright and early again. We waited in line at the National Archives to be one of the first ones inside. I stood in front of our founding documents this morning. Very surreal and amazing. From there took in the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden and got to get close to another Oldenburg! Then we headed to the Capitol Club. Little did I know that it was the National Republican Club. (A little side note here. I have been traveling with my mother and my sister whom are both republicans. I am of the other persuasion.) They thought it was hilarious that I needed to go inside the club. We sat in the entry to the private club and waited for Henry Bonilla. He personally took us on a private tour of the capitol building. I could go on and on about this but instead will give the short short version. The buildings interior is unlike anything I have ever seen in this country. I stood on both the House and Senate floor. Sat at Mrs. Clinton's desk in the chamber and saw the remaining bullet hole from the shooting in the 50's. I have a better understanding of our law making process. I think I will remain an artist. Haha...

Washington Day Three

Well we hit the ground walking this morning. There were many amazing things seen. I finally sat on a couple set of steps I have always wondered about. As I sat on the steps to the Lincoln Memorial I looked out to the Washington Monument. I have seen this same view in still pictures and on the big screen a ton of times. The scale of the grounds could never have been understood until I sat on the steps myself. Then there was the Vietnam Memorial designed by Maya Lin when she was still a student at Yale. Watching people take rubbings off the wall of there love ones names. Absolutely speechless. We went out to Arlington National Cementery today as well. I never knew that before the land was a cementery it was a plantation that was once home to Robert E. Lee, once he left to join the south in the Civil War he never came back again. Crazy. I saw the seas of headstones, and the resting places for President JFK and Jackie, President Taft, Thurgood Marshall and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. All in all the history keeps flowing into my head and we have been going to bed early with tired feet and minds. Tomorrow we are off to the home of George Washington. I am also going to try and capture some of the protests that are going on in Washington right now. To anyone who has not made the journey out to DC, I highly recommend it. It has made me geared up to be democratic!

We had another busy day in DC. The architecture here is beautiful. I stood in front of the Capitol Building and just kept saying wow! I wish we had more buildings of that caliber in this country. I also saw the Wright Bros. plane and many other wonders of air and space. My brain is full, my legs sore and my lips chapped from the breeze. Also I ended the day with coffee and cheesecake. Could I ever ask for more? I think not. I look forward to a day full of art later this week.

I remember wishing I would travel more. Haha be careful what you wish for, I have been running all over the place lately and loving it. I am currently in Washington DC. It is an all Felicella woman trip. Just my mother, sister and myself. I loved walking the green lawn of the Mall. I could not help but to think of all the amazing things that have happened on that same grass I was standing on. We are literally surrounded by our nations history. While gazing at the White House today my sister found a button. We had to push it. It made us both giggle. We waited but no one came to let us in. Must have been there day off. Goodtimes..

Other than that things have been busy busy as usual. The Shutterbabes had there first outing. What a blast!! There shall be more updates soon. I am such a bad blogger.

Unexpected Moments

We plan, we schedule, we make to-do lists, and we try to stay on task. Life always seems to have another plan, schedule, etc... I absolutely love the unexpected nature of living. I enjoy being caught off guard because it means I am alive!!! I went out shooting again today and enjoyed the Dallas Farmer's Market. It made me very hungry. Below was a shot from last weekend. I enjoyed playing with the pigeons of Jefferson Ave.

I have been missing something when I go out and shoot these days. So I decided to pick up some film and a camera that holds it. I went shooting this last weekend in Oak Cliff. I can not remember the last time I had that much fun. Slowly walking and observing, using a light meter, not seeing my instant results, and being more selective. I have no idea what the images will look like and I love it!!! I picked up a new scanner today for all of this film. Haha I know I am such a hipocryte but how else can I load them on flickr. Maybe I am just a half analog soul. Anyway I started to look through my older film binders and scanned one for a test. I am really looking forward to Spring and new possibilities!!!

Bored Puppy

Tipper is a little over one week post-op. She is healing well and starting to get cabin fever. We got her a play pen to hangout in but it is not the same. I could not imagine wearing an e-collar all the time. Frankly I would be cranky for sure. At least she has a window to watch the squirrels.

I am constantly between an old project and a new one. I guess it is much better than a rock and a hard place. Haha. Anyway I am winding down and hoping to finish the "Shot Project" by this spring of "08. I can not believe I started this project in 2005. There will be one more shooting session and a ton of post work. I can not wait to see it when it is finished. I have photographed over 50 people at this point.

Next I have been wanting to bring good ol' film back into my life. I have missed her. I am beginning a series that will be shot at night all on 120 roll film. I can not wait to stand on the street corners with a tripod , light meter, and a stopwatch.

Another new project is the "Shutterbabes". This has been a lot of talk for me and now it is time for action. I am trying to gather as many female shutterbugs as I can and I hope we start hitting the streets in March.

The Weekend of 2.01.08 - 2.03.08

What a weekend! For all of you in the Dallas area that grew up Roller Skating, get over to White Rock Skate Center. It is the real deal all the way down to the paint scheme and hokie pokie. A bunch of us went rolling on friday for Andrea's birthday. Although I was terrified to have wheels on the feet at first, I slowly transitioned back to the 80's thanks to leah and her scruncie. All I can say is those Robert's can roll!!

Saturday the weather was amazing and Alison and I grabbed my camera equipment and went out to the La Reunion land. It was the first annual tree carving. Artists were on site with chainsaws, ropes, harnesses, and much more. People were taking guided walks through the woods with guides from the discovery gardens. All in all a beautiful way to spend a day! Click here for more information on La Reunion.

Photo Outing in the cold 1.31.08

I have begun to take weekly excursions with my camera around town. Yesterday was the first one. I had no idea what was brewing outside while I spent the morning working away in my office. I threw on a few layers and headed to pick up Andrea. My car was being pushed by the wind as I drove along. I started to think, I may not have enough layers on to stand in this cold. Haha like anyone who knows me thought that could be possible. Anyway we drove along from location to location working quickly so our fingers did not freeze. I have always wanted to photograph the cows in the park between the levees so we went. Keep in mind that the space between the levees acts like a wind tunnel. All I can say is brrrrrr... It was a ridiculous idea but we shivered and giggled the whole way as our eyes teared from the brisk gusts. We were about to head back to the car and I handed Andrea my camera and asked her to take a picture of me and the cow. She snapped it and we got out of there. Finally to reward ourselves with hot coffee. What Fun!!

A group of the art con gang went to St. Anthony's Community Center yesterday afternoon. We brought the gift of a check! They were the beneficiary of Art Con 3 which took place in December 2007. The wonderful C.Weinberg handed over a check for over $14,000. All the work and lack of sleep put into art con by all is completely worth it. I can not express what it means to me to be apart of such philanthropic bunch. Not to mention the connecting of artist, musicians, and more. Art Con is near and dear to my heart. Please stay tuned for the next event which is SEED 2 coming this summer!

I have been in San Antonio working the last couple of days, but have to hop in the car to make it back to Dallas this evening. Tonight brings together two things I love, Art and Soda Pop. Also for those of you that might enjoy, there will be tequila as well. Opening starts at 7pm

"To Capture a Blue Canary" opens tonight and runs until Feb 10th. It is there first-ever photography exhibition featuring the photography of Crimson Allen, Myself, Jakob Fakheri, Havi Frost, Debra Gloria, Charlie Mitcherson and The Soda Gallery’s own Jonathon Kimbrell. All photographers in the show have many years of photographic experience between them, and such a varied eye for subjects. Between commercial photography to the more traditional approach.

I had such great intentions when I finally started posting in my blog. Life has keep me away from the keyboard in the last month. HAHA.. No excuses I just have been doing alot of other stuff and forgot to blog. We are now in a new year and the ball is already rolling. I do not even know where to start so how about a recap.

2007 in review the short short short version. There was laughter, tears, hugs, growth, and pain. I went into 2007 determined to figure a few things out. I succeeded in that journey but wouldn't you know that I now have more questions than answers. Haha.... The nature of it all is that we will never know it all. I look forward to continuing the process in 2008. We are 15 days into a new year and things are already busy busy busy. Just the way I like it!

Things have been busy busy in the preparations of Art Conspiracy. What a fun adventure! I am really looking forward to this weekend. The collaborative efforts of all involved are amazing. About three weeks ago a gang of wall painters went out and painted the mural that functions as a sign for the event. Now we are only a couple of days away. On Saturday 100+ Artist will show up to The Door and create works of art on Plywood in 2 1/2 shifts. Those boards will be left to dry overnight and the next day will all be live auctioned.

Weekend Recap 11.9.07 - 11.11.07

What a whirlwind of a weekend. First it was Hal's birthday. Thanks to it, I now have a custom screenprinted hat. It was removed from my head and printed on site. The crafty work of Michael Arreaga!

The next morning was Art Chicas Unidas. I can not begin to explain what a great time I had with my students. I had two amazing young women in my class. The objective was to produce a finished piece with each girl. We spent the morning discussing perspective, point of view, history, and camera mechanics. Then off on a photo safari we went. We walked around for one hour and the gals snapped away. I was really impressed with how much they absorbed in one day. A big thank you to Sarah Jane for asking me to fill out an application. I am so glad I did!!

That evening was the reception for the Girls' from Art Chicas and the opening of Three of a Kind. I can never thank everyone enough who attends all of these art functions month after month. Without all of you there would be none of us. You rock!!! Not only did a really close friend of mine drive up for the show, she also purchased a piece. The other two art gals will be watching some of their work head off to new homes at the end of the show as well! All in all a great night!

Sunday lead to the Whirlyball Adventure!! Art Conspiracy is rounding the corner. We are having meetings once a week and the emails are constant. So we decided to play a little hookey. Instead of meeting around a table we met face to face on the giggly court of WhirlyBall. The perfect ending to a incredibly long week.

Art Chicas, Three of a Kind, Whirlyball and More...

It is Friday.... typically a day achieved that creates relief. Not the case this week. The last five days have been a wonderfully hectic build-up to this weekend. Tonight there is a crazy get together for Hal Samples and friends at SPACE. I hear there is even a surprise performance scheduled for this evening. Hopefully I get to bed early for tomorrow brings a new adventure.

Bright and early I will arrive at City Gallery to set-up for a day of sharing and mentoring. Me and a group of other female artists are involved in phase one of a new program called "Art Chicas Unidas". The program was started by La Reunion, they are up to all kinds of good in Dallas. I will be working with a group of high school girls and some cameras. The goal is to teach them a little history, some mechanics, some computer skills, and presentation. The end result will be a a framed photograph to hang in a show. Did I mention the show is tomorrow night? Well it sure is. The show will be installed at the end of the day and all can come and see the work. Reception is from 7pm - 9pm. There is more....

After Art Chicas Unidas I will be heading to Kettle Art for the opening of "Three of a Kind". We installed this show on wednesday and I am excited to see what the crowd thinks. There are 34 pieces total for your viewing pleasure. Come on out for an evening of fun!

Lastly on Sunday the Art Conspiracy gang is having a team building outing. WHIRLYBALL!!! If you are not familiar with this sport click on whirlyball for more information. The last time I played this game I giggled uncontrollably. I can not think of a better way to end the weekend! Art Conspiracy is drawing near, the artists slots are full, the bands are scheduled, and a huge mural is being painted next weekend. Don't forget to put December 9th in your calendars 6-10pm.

Three of a Kind and a Freelance Life

Well most of the work was dropped off at the gallery last night. This show is going to be fun. We are waiting on one more artist to drop by and then hang hang hang! I love being involved prior to an opening. i get to spend time with each individual piece without a bunch of people standing around. On another note things are moving forward for Art Conspiracy III. I am so honored to be the Art Coordinator this year. I never thought I would say "I am playing email tag with 100+ artists!" but I am. One of the beauties of being a freelance gal is that I can get up and go right to work. Meaning, I am still in my pajamas. haha. If you can make it out this Saturday, I would love to see you. Lovie + Collaborations

The closing reception for Collaboration was last saturday night. It was a great turn out and a couple more pieces will be going away to some new homes. The energy was bubbly for directly after the closing reception we walked next store to Club Dada for Lovie's CD release party. What a blast! These girls make you giggle and wiggle. I danced, sang, hooted and hollered. At one point I counted six photographers in front snapping away. I even joined the gals on-stage as one of three cheerleaders the other two being Leah and Andrea. We shook are red pom-poms in the air and danced until we could not dance anymore. If you had not heard these gals play check them out. The CD is called "Harshmellow" and it is available at CD World and Good Records.

Life has been a whirlwind the last couple of months. I have still not reflected on an evening of complete joy. On the eve of my 30th birthday there was a party. I was not privy to any of the details and therefore was not at all prepared for what happened next. I can not thank everyone enough for an evening I will never forget. I have always wanted a night where all the corners of my life meet in the middle and mingle. I was surrounded by family, friends, art, and music. What more could a girl ask for? Nothing, it was perfect. I am one lucky woman. An extended thank you to the musicians who played that evening: Johnny Citizen, Heather Knox, and Lovie.

I have been working on a new series of work for the last 6 months. I have finished six more. I should have around 11 pieces in the show. Every piece tells a story from inside or out. They touch on various issues from political, enviromental, or mental. I am excited to be hanging on the walls with both Lisa Lindholm and Jayme Nourallah. None of us gals work in similar styles but the work has a flow. The show hangs until December 1st. Come on out!

Finding San Antonio

I have to admit my negative thoughts toward a city I used to call home. I closed my eyes to this city and needed to wipe them clean once again. We seem to place our emotional response to life on a physical location. I was a young lost girl while living in San Antonio therefore deeming it a dark hole. I took a trip down to San Antonio for both work and art. This trip I wanted to alter my incorrect views. I am sure glad that I did! San Antonio is a city full of amazing architecture, art, and adventure. I spent an afternoon out arting with a good art pal Mirka Hokkanen who was also visiting San Antonio. We started at Trinity University where she is a visiting artist at the moment. From there we went to these amazing places: McNay Museum, Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, Studios and Galleries around Blue Star, Unit B Gallery, Art Pace, and Galeria Ortiz Contemporary. Final Fair Days from 2007

When I first moved to Dallas I balked at the State Fair of Texas. I have since seen the error of my ways and have become a believer. Every year I obtain a season pass and fit as many corndogs in my belly as possible. I am always a little bit sad when it's stay comes to an end but look forward to next year. Today admidst all of the Art Conspiracy emails I ran off and played hooky to enjoy one more fair outing. I once again have failed to shoot out a star, flip a chick into it's bucket or feed an ostrich. What I did do was giggle the whole way.

Always remember.....all is fair in love and bumper cars! All in all a great Big Tex afternoon.

Journey to Caddo Country

I headed east for the last couple of days to Uncertain, Texas. You have to love a town's name that makes you scratch your head. The drive out was beautiful. We arrived and searched for locations for Monday's shoot. I took one look at beautiful Caddo lake and new that neither I or Alison was going to navigate this lake by ourselves. I felt like I was looking at a lake that Tim Burton built. I could almost hear music by Danny Elfman in the background.

After a little research and chats, a guide was found and all was happy. The next day I awoke bright and early only to hear the pitter patter of rain drops on the cabin roof. Slightly perplexed I sat on the porch staring at the rain hit the ground. We moved forward despite the rain and had a really full day of adventure and wet socks. Caddo Lake is a magical place that I must return to in the near future.

Art, Life, and Dallas

We installed the collaboration show last night and I am really looking forward to this evening. I was also walking up and down Elm street yesterday and really enjoyed all of the new murals thanks to the Re*Co*Ver mural competition. When I first moved to Dallas I thought I would never stay here. Now I can not imagine myself living any where else. In the last seven years there has been so much cultural change. I am surrounded by amazing people, amazing projects, and great neighborhoods. I now sound like an add for Dallas. Haha.

Collaboration Show @ Kettle This Saturday

Kettle Head a collaborative piece by Havi Frost and Myself. I will also have pieces with Cathey Miller and Sergio Garcia.

Collaboration opens this Saturday October 13th @ Kettle Art in Deep Ellum. I have been by the gallery a couple of times this week and have seen most of the work. This show is going to be fun. It is great to see the styles of artists blend together. The work officially gets installed tonight. I hope to see everyone out and about on Saturday Night.
